Instrumental Music Instructors

After extensive engagement between GTC Scotland and Scottish Government on the outcomes of the draft Education Bill, there remains at present insufficient clarity about how it may be progressed, including what it means for widening registration and regulation to include Instrumental Music Instructors (IMIs).

Specifically, greater clarity is required with regard to the necessary legislative changes being made to GTC Scotland’s 2011 Order to allow the registration and regulation of IMIs to take place. To avoid raising expectations at this time of uncertainty, GTC Scotland has decided to put on hold any further work to progress registration and regulation of IMIs until the Scottish Government’s position becomes clearer.

To avoid any confusion on the matter, we have temporarily reduced the level of information relating to IMI registration on our website.

Applications for Affiliation remain available and open. Those who have already been given Affiliation status are unaffected.

This position has been established in the spirit of openness and partnership, and with respect to Instrumental Music Instructors across the country.

Be assured that should we receive significant information, clarification or a change to the current situation we will advise you as a matter of urgency.
